I need information on my late mother"s investments . My brother has written to the agents from my mother's email id asking them to sell away all her shares . Once it was done and the money was sent to her SB acc , he has had an access to her account and has taken custody of the money ..my share too . Separate accounts were created for me and my brother to avoid disputes . My question : 1) How will i know the total amount dispursed after the sale of shares . 2) How will i know if some shares have been transmitted to my brother's name and he sold very little to show me a different figure . Repeated emails to the broker have been unfruitful . Kindly advice .
As you may be aware, shares can be purchased and sold only through demat accounts. Once the order is executed, the details are sent by SMS and email by the stock broker as well as by the relevant stock exchange. The entire process is automated. It is not clear whether the demat account is in the sole name of your mother or is jointly held with you. If you have a separate demat account, you must have received an SMS from the broker. You need to know from the broker only as to how the orders were placed. Please note that no broker will provide details to another person who is not the account holder. Same is the case with bank account. If your brother is a joint holder with your mother, he can withdraw the amount. Instead of calling the broker, please escalate your grievance to the grievances officer / customer care officer of the broking firm, provided you are one of the account holders. You may write to us again after providing the above details, or visit our office at Prabhadevi, Mumbai, with prior appointment.
