What is the exact definition of a "Paying Guest" in a cooperative housing society? Can a member who is not occupying his/her apartment rent it out to separate individuals who are neither family members/ related to the member and are also not related among themselves? Can the Society's management refuse permission to a member for such an arrangement?
Dear Jay, A paying guest is an individual, who pays for rent for residing in the flat. A flat may be given to two or more paying guests, and from each such individual paying guest, owner of the flat collects, rent. When flat is given to a family, all persons residing in the flat are from the same family. Whether flat is given on rent to a family, or to individual paying guests, owner of the flat has to pay Non-Occupancy Charges, which is 10% of the Society's monthly maintenance charges of that flat. When flat is given to paying guests on rent, then if some paying guest leave3s the flat, then flat owner will get proportionate less rent, and he has to search for a new paying guest to replace his place. Now a days, property brokers give paying guest accommodation to any flat owners, therefore, to get paying guests, it is not difficult to get paying guest in the flat.
