Shaktikanta Das Appointed Principal Secretary-2 to PM Modi

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) 's former governor, Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as principal secretary-2 to prime minister Narendra Modi. On Saturday, his selection was approved by the Cabinet's appointments committee. 
 
In a release, the committee says, "The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Shaktikanta Das, IAS (retired) (TN:80) as principal secretary-2 to PM with effect from the date he assumes the office. His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the prime minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
 
Mr Das is a former 1980-batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He served as the 25th governor of RBI. He was earlier a member of the 15th finance commission and India's Sherpa to the G20.
 
During his career as an IAS officer, Mr Das served in various capacities for the Central and Tamil Nadu governments, including as secretary for economic affairs, revenue and fertilisers. He has also served as India's alternate governor at the World Bank, ADB, NDB, and AIIB. He has represented India in various international forums, such as the IMF, G20, BRICS, and SAARC.
 
He was conferred the 'Central Banker of the Year, Asia-Pacific 2020' award by the London-based magazine 'The Banker' for making the banking system more robust.
 
As chief of the central bank, Mr Das was also honoured with the title of 'Governor of the Year 2023' by the London-based financial journal Central Banking.
