Sanjay Malhotra Is the New RBI Governor

Sanjay Malhotra, an officer from the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) serving as the revenue secretary in the Union finance ministry, has been appointed as the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Mr Malhotra, the 26th governor of RBI, will replace Shaktikanta Das, who served since December 2018.
 
The appointments committee of the Cabinet (ACC) cleared Mr Malhotra's name, who has been appointed as the RBI governor for three years, starting Wednesday. Mr Das's tenure will end on Tuesday, 10th December. 
 
Mr Malhotra is a 1990 batch IAS officer from Rajasthan Cadre. He is an engineering graduate in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and has a Master's in Public Policy from Princeton University, US.
 
With demonstrated leadership and excellence in his career of over 34 years, Mr Malhotra has worked in multifarious sectors, including power, finance and taxation, information technology and mines. 
 
In his previous assignment, he held the post of secretary in the department of financial services under the Union ministry of finance.
 
Mr Malhotra has extensive experience in finance and taxation at the state and Union government levels. As revenue secretary, he played an instrumental role in tax policy formulation regarding direct and indirect taxes.
