One Nation One Ration Card: DoT Allots 14445 Short Code for Helpline for Beneficiary Grievances
Moneylife Digital Team 13 July 2020
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has allocated 14445 short code as helpline number to dealing with grievance or distress calls of beneficiaries of several schemes including One Nation, One Ration Card scheme.

In a notification, the DoT, says, "Short code 14445 is allocated as helpline number to Central Project management unit (CPMU) to be utilised for dealing with the grievances or distress call s of beneficiaries, obtaining feedback and also for information dissemination and awareness generation activities under One Nation, One Ration Card plan across the country."

"The call centres will be located in the states and union territories (UTs) and a common helpline number would be implemented for One Nation, One Ration Card plan," the notification says.

As per the notification, this is a category I service and mandatorily provided by all access services providers without any restrictions. The caller will pay for the call as per his or her tariff plan.

Earlier in May the Central government had announced 'one nation, one ration card' system to allow national portability of ration cards for the people, who can now avail the benefits under the public distribution scheme (PDS) system wherever they are in the country.

The scheme was announced by union finance minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharaman to enable migrant beneficiaries to access any fair price shop in the country to get food grains and other items.

During the nationwide lock-down due to the coronavirus (COVID19) scare, there was a lot of criticism that the government had failed to provide food to stranded migrant labourers.

The new system is part of the Prime Minister's technology-driven system reforms wherein 670 million persons will benefit in 23 states.

The 'one nation, one ration card' policy will be rolled out 100% by March 2021. This will ensure people get ration in whichever corner of the country they may be.

One nation one card scheme will become very useful, If government strictly take action of people complaint regarding ration shop sales man not providing food grains and other items to people who are shifted. My family also sifted within a district for working purpose. Many time take us to aware this scheme. At last we aware about the scheme. Then we go to nearby ration shop and ask food grains. Our smart card is AAY card. We can get 35 kgs of rice. But the salesman said that he would gave only 20 kgs rice. Is there any rule regarding this in this scheme. If any one known. Please reply me.

A Ration card is difficult to acquire if the Sr most member if the household doesn't co-operate. Thus, when no ration card is taken when offered, it becomes futile to try to acquire a new one later on. I tried to acquire one but failed. Then the agents standing outside told me that without paying bribes, I cannot expect to get a Ration card & such bribes can only be paid through trusted people like themselves. I'm sad that though my income has just crossed one lakh pa & even though I've offered to take a white card, my application form was not even taken, rather, I was asked to route my application through the Agent outside. Therefore, I still don't have a ration card. So, what steps can be taken to prevent harassment by powerful Government employees? The first step should be THE EASE OF ACQUIRING A RATION CARD without being forced to pay bribes

This is the situation in all state to get a Ration Card.

What government says, "One Nation one Ration Card" is a cruel joke on poor people.

When getting Ration Card is far from reality, then another cruelty is 14445 inexistent BSNL landline phone number for lodging Ration Card complaint.

BSNL & MTNL Government's Telecom companies are allegedly died long ago.

I request any readers to dial this Central Government's five-digit telephone number 14445 of BSNL, to see whether it is working.

Forget about working, the phone is not ringing, immediately after you dial 14445, your call gets disconnected.

It is the only namesake show peace BSNL Telephone number launched for "One Nation One Ration Card" an un-launched scheme, for its grievance complaint booking.

Thanks for your reply Sir. As the article mentions, 14445 is a short code allocated for the scheme. This has not yet become a helpline number. It will take some time for all concerned to allow this service.

In short, it is a bogus show making business of the Central Government.

When "One Nation One Ration Card is not formed, then why complaint number, which is not working?

That Central Government Officer's letter clearly says that 14445 is a complaint phone number.

Why only for a short code, it should be stated as BSNL complaint number in that letter?

Letter clearly states that call centres WILL be located...... helpline number WOULD be implemented...... This clearly means that the work is in progress!! Only after implementation can you start saying its Bogus or not!! :)
