Meta has officially launched paid subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, marking a major push by the social media giant to expand revenue streams beyond advertising.
According to
a report by TechCrunch, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at US$3.99 per month each, while WhatsApp Plus costs US$2.99 per month.
In the Instagram post, Meta’s head of product, Naomi Gleit, said the company would continue adding more features to these subscription offerings over time.
The new consumer-focused plans are designed for users seeking additional customisation tools, enhanced engagement features and deeper audience insights. The move also reflects Meta’s strategy to diversify income sources as growth across its core social platforms stabilises globally.
Instagram Plus includes a range of tools targeted at creators and heavy users. Subscribers will be able to view aggregated rewatch counts for Stories, create unlimited story audience lists beyond the close friends feature and extend stories beyond the standard 24-hour limit.
The subscription also allows users to preview stories anonymously before viewing, search story viewer lists, spotlight one story every week for greater visibility and publish posts directly to profiles without displaying them in followers’ feeds.
Additional features include animated ‘Super Heart’ reactions, custom app icons, personalised bio fonts and extra profile pinning options.
Facebook Plus offers a similar feature set centred on profile personalisation and social engagement.
WhatsApp Plus, meanwhile, focuses on messaging-related enhancements. Subscribers will gain access to customised app themes, premium stickers, personalised ringtones, expanded pinned chat options and list customisation tools.
TechCrunch reported that the new ‘Plus’ plans are separate from Meta Verified, the company’s existing paid service offering account verification, impersonation protection and enhanced customer support. Meta has not indicated any immediate plans to discontinue Meta Verified.
Alongside the global rollout, Meta also announced testing of a broader subscription ecosystem under a new umbrella brand called ‘Meta One’.
The company plans to introduce AI-focused subscription tiers for Meta AI users. The Meta One Plus plan will be priced at US$7.99 per month, while the Meta One Premium plan will cost US$19.99 per month.
Both plans will provide access to advanced AI features, though the premium tier will include higher compute capacity for complex queries and deeper reasoning capabilities. Subscribers are also expected to receive enhanced image and video generation tools across Meta’s platforms.
Meta said its AI services would remain free for casual users, while the paid plans are aimed at users requiring heavier usage and more advanced functionality.
The AI subscription tests are scheduled to begin next month in Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia.
In addition, Meta will begin testing subscription plans for creators and businesses in select markets, including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand and Bangladesh.
Under these plans, the Meta One Essential tier, priced at US$14.99 per month, will offer benefits such as account verification, impersonation protection and expanded profile-linking features.
A higher-end Meta One Advanced subscription, costing US$49.99 per month, will include additional promotional and discovery tools. These include improved visibility in Facebook feeds and search results, enhanced ‘follow’ buttons on Reels, automated follower invitations and advanced analytics tools.
The advanced tier will also offer scheduling features, shared account-management tools for moderators and alerts when content is reused by other users on Facebook or Instagram.
Meta said it is continuing to experiment with these professional and AI-focused offerings and intends to gradually integrate them under the broader Meta One platform.
