Lodha Brothers Settle Disputes amicably through Mediation
Moneylife Digital Team 14 April 2025
In a major development, the Lodha brothers—Abhishek Lodha and Abhinandan Lodha—have amicably resolved all outstanding disputes through a family-guided mediation process.

The resolution, reached under the guidance of their parents and facilitated by members of the legal community, brings clarity to the ownership and use of their respective brand names and businesses.

As part of the agreement:

Macrotech Developers Ltd (MDL), led by Abhishek Lodha, retains sole ownership and exclusive rights to the brand names ‘Lodha’ and ‘Lodha group’.

Abhinandan Lodha holds full ownership and exclusive rights to the brand name House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL).

It has been jointly affirmed that ‘Lodha group’ and ‘House of Abhinandan Lodha’ are entirely separate entities with no affiliation. Both companies will be communicating this distinction publicly.

Each brother has relinquished any claims over the other’s businesses. Abhinandan has no stake or rights in Lodha group, MDL, or any of Abhishek’s ventures, and Abhishek has no claims in HoABL or any of Abhinandan’s enterprises.

Both brothers expressed deep gratitude to justice RV Raveendran (retd) for his guidance during the mediation process. The family also acknowledged justice Arif Doctor for encouraging the pursuit of mediation.

The Lodha family decided not to make any further comments on the matter.

In 2015, the sons of Maharashtra minister and senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mangal Prabhat Lodha agreed on a family settlement. Abhinandan parted ways from Lodha group and started House of Abhinandan Lodha Estate Holdings Pvt Ltd. The separation in the Lodha family was formalised in 2017 through a family settlement agreement.

In January this year, Macrotech Developers and Digirealty Technologies Pvt Ltd initiated a trademark infringement suit to restrain HoABL of Abhinandan Lodha from using the 'Lodha' trademark in any form. It contended that due to non-compliance with the 2017 agreement, the new agreement was signed between the two parties in December 2023, which expressly prohibited Abhinandan (Lodha) from using a name similar to 'Lodha'.

During a hearing on 28 January 2025, the Bombay High Court suggested that the Lodha brothers, who are embroiled in a long-standing trademark dispute, consider mediation to resolve the matter.

The bench of justice Doctor says that since the issue stems from a family dispute, it may be beneficial for the two brothers, Abhishek Lodha and Abhinandan Lodha, to explore mediation. (Read: Lodha Trademark: Bombay HC Urges Lodha Brothers To Settle Dispute by Mediation
