The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the launch of Retail Direct scheme, allowing retail investors to open free gilt accounts directly with the central bank.
 
Opening the Retail Direct Gilt (RDG) account will allow retail investors to buy government dated securities, treasury bills, state development loans and sovereign gold bonds.
