India Confirms It Lost Fighter Jets in Recent Pakistan Conflict: Bloomberg

India’s military confirmed for the first time that it lost an unspecified number of fighter jets in clashes with Pakistan in May, while saying the four-day conflict never came close to the point of nuclear war, says a report from Bloomberg.

Speaking to Bloomberg TV at the Shangri-La Dialogue security summit in Singapore, the chief of defence staff (CDS) general Anil Chauhan has for the first time confirmed Pakistan shot down Indian Air Force fighter jets during clashes in early May.

"He did not disclose the number of its aircraft that were shot down, but did push back on Pakistani claims that six Indian aircraft were shot down. He, however, did not reveal the type of aircraft that were lost, although photos and videos of wreckage posted on social media indicated that at least one each of India’s French-made Rafale and Mirage 2000 jets were downed," Bloomberg says.

General Chauhan called Pakistan’s claims that it shot down six Indian warplanes 'absolutely incorrect,' though he declined to specify how many jets India lost. “Why they were down, what mistakes were made — that are important,” the CDS said when asked about the fighter jets. 'Numbers are not important,' he added.

“The good part is that we are able to understand the tactical mistake which we made, remedy it, rectify it, and then implement it again after two days and fly all our jets again, targeting at long range,” general Chauhan told Bloomberg.
