Step 1: Understanding DIGIPIN and PIN Code Platforms

DIGIPIN (digital postal index number) is a geo-coded, grid-based digital address system developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and ISRO’s NRSC. It is precise, open-source and designed to support services across government and private sectors.

Know Your PIN Code refines the classic six-digit postal PIN code system using geofencing and location mapping, making PIN code identification far more accurate.

Step 2: Access the Portals

Both portals are hosted on India Post’s digital platform.

You can access them on any desktop or mobile browser with an active internet connection.

Step 3: How to Use ‘Know Your DIGIPIN’

Once on the DIGIPIN portal, https://dac.indiapost.gov.in/mydigipin/home

• Option 1: Use Your Location

Allow the site to access your device’s GPS. It will automatically generate your DIGIPIN based on your precise geolocation.

• Option 2: Input Coordinates

If you know the latitude and longitude, you can manually enter them to get the corresponding DIGIPIN.

• Option 3: Reverse Lookup

Enter a DIGIPIN to retrieve its exact geographical coordinates.

This tool is especially useful for rural residents, delivery agents, emergency responders, developers, and government agencies aiming to provide services more accurately.

Step 4: How to Use ‘Know Your PIN Code’

Go to Know Your PIN Code portal, https://dac.indiapost.gov.in/mypincode/menu

• Use GNSS Location

The portal uses your device's global navigation satellite system (GNSS) to determine your exact location and fetch the correct PIN Code.

• Verify Accuracy and Submit Feedback

If you notice discrepancies, use the feedback option on the portal to report inaccurate pin code boundaries. Your input helps improve the system through citizen participation.

The launch of these platforms aligns with the National Geospatial Policy 2022 and reinforces India’s digital public infrastructure (DPI) goals. As Vandita Kaul, secretary of DoP remarked, this initiative ensures “every citizen, even in the remotest part of the country, is digitally locatable and serviceable.”
