Dense Fog Disrupts Flights and Trains as Cold Wave Tightens Grip across North India
Moneylife Digital Team 23 December 2025
Cold wave conditions intensified across large parts of north and eastern India, with dense fog and plunging temperatures disrupting air, rail and road transport in several states. Poor visibility led to the cancellation of around 14 flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport, while more than 35 trains were delayed by over three hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says dense fog is likely to persist over Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) till Tuesday.

The weather office warned of dense to very dense fog conditions over Punjab till 27th December, with several areas continuing to experience low visibility that has impacted vehicular movement and train services.

An orange alert for dense fog was issued in Bihar, where visibility dropped sharply in multiple districts, affecting routine activities and transport services. Similar conditions were reported at Gorakhpur railway station in Uttar Pradesh where fog led to train delays and inconvenience to passengers.

Ayodhya experienced a cold wave accompanied by dense fog, significantly reducing visibility in the early hours. In the northeast, a thick blanket of fog covered parts of Guwahati, particularly the Uzan Bazar area, affecting morning movement.

Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer also remained in the grip of cold wave conditions, with falling temperatures and persistent fog leading to poor visibility across the city.

IMD has advised commuters to exercise caution as dense fog conditions are expected to continue in several regions over the next few days.
