Bombay High Court Grants Medical Bail to Naresh Goyal in ED Case
Sahyaja MS (Bar  and  Bench) 11 November 2024
The Bombay High Court on Monday granted medical bail to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal in connection with a money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Single-judge Justice NJ Jamadar had earlier granted interim medical bail to Goyal to undergo cancer treatment. The interim order was made absolute on Monday.

Earlier, Goyal had been granted interim medical bail for a period of two months to undergo cancer treatment after medical reports indicated that Goyal was suffering from malignant tumors. This bail was later extended for an additional month for a surgical procedure.

He had initially approached the sessions court for bail, where he was allowed to consult private doctors for a medical check-up. The check-up revealed the severity of his condition, prompting Goyal to request medical bail.

In response, the special judge permitted Goyal to remain hospitalized for two months for treatment. However, his request for permanent bail on medical grounds was rejected in April, though the court allowed him to continue his treatment in the hospital.

Goyal subsequently filed a plea before the Bombay High Court. On May 6, the High Court granted him two months of interim medical bail with the condition that he remain within the jurisdiction of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mumbai. This bail was later extended for an additional four weeks as Goyal’s treatment continued. (Read: Naresh Goyal Gets 2 Months Interim Medical Bail in ED Case

Public prosecutor Hiten Vengaokar represented ED.
