The Andhra Pradesh (AP) Cabinet has approved the allocation of 21.16 acres to Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) in Visakhapatnam at a token lease price of 99 paise.

In a post on X, AP's information technology (IT) minister Nara Lokesh says, "TCS has been allocated 21.16 acres of land in Vizag to build a development centre at an investment of Rs1,370 crore, creating over 12,000 jobs."

"Cabinet approved the allocation of 21.16 acres of land to TCS at Visakhapatnam IT Hill Number 3 for setting up an IT campus to generate 12,000 jobs," the AP government says in a release.

According to the release, the TCS development centre in Vizag was brought in by the state government led by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, with IT minister Nara Lokesh pitching and negotiating the project since October 2024.

In August 2024, Mr Naidu, the CM, met N Chandrasekaran, chairman of the Tata Sons. After the meeting, he posted on X about the AP government exploring an opportunity of setting up TCS' development centre in Vizag, enhancement of AP's air connectivity with Air India and Vistara, and various other partnerships across multiple sectors.

After several months of discussions and follow-ups, the state Cabinet formally approved the land allotment this week, making it clear this is a recent initiative by the present government to boost IT investment in the region.
