Regulator Wakes Up to the Problems It Has Created
UK Sinha, chairman of the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI), was fairly candid about the sad state of the capital market in his talk at Kolkata in March. Money raised from the capital market dropped form Rs67,000 crore a few years ago, to an ‘alarming’ Rs14,400 crore in the current financial year, he said. As much as Rs60,000 crore of fund-raising was shelved, in many cases, after filing documents with SEBI.
